A View from the Road—November 2016

Spring Forward, Fall Back
This mnemonic helps us remember to reset our clocks when we switch between Daylight Savings and Standard Time. It is also a good reminder to look back at the year gone by and look forward to the next year.
With your help, we had the largest attendance at both the Highway School and Bridge Conference since before the Great Recession; we held over 50 workshops, and had 17 municipalities in our summer intern program. Thank you!
In November, we are hosting our Advisory Panel meeting and will be finalizing plans for 2017. If you have any thoughts, please let us know. No matter what we plan, we are always available to answer your questions, come to your association meetings, or help with new innovations. As the FHWA says, Every Day Counts, so make the most of each one.
Fall is also a good time to do those errands such as changing the batteries in your smoke alarms and finish getting ready for the winter snow season. Have a good Thanksgiving!
Traffic sign handbook update
We have just received funding to update one of our most popular publications—the Traffic Sign Handbook for Local Roads. There are a number of minor changes to be made since it was last updated in 2011. They should be out early in the new year.
