How close can a residential driveway be to an intersection?

intersection

The NYSDOT Highway Design Manual Chapter 5 and Appendix 5A provide information regarding the placement of a variety of driveway types. With regard to residential driveways, a recommended distance from an intersection’s closest edge of travel lane is equal to 2x’s the width of the driveway plus 15 feet (2W + 15 feet; W = width of driveway). If the intersection is signaled, a minimum of 100 feet is recommended. These are standards for State Highways but are also a good reference source local roads and streets. Figure 5A, from Appendix 5A, provides diagrams and notes that should help provide guidance for different types of driveways.
