View from the Road - December 2014
As we end the year, we are reminded of how important our highways are to the economy and our own mobility. The recent large lake effect snow events before Thanksgiving in Buffalo and the Tug Hill region showed how working together helps everyone. Thank you to all of the snowfighters.
In 2015, the Cornell Local Roads Program is looking at a very busy year and with your help a successful one. We are holding over 50 workshops, giving presentations at meetings all around the state, and answering your technical assistance questions via email, phone and in person. Please let us know what we can do you help you and, by extension, help the travelers on the highways of New York State - David Orr, PE.

At the 2015 Bridge Conference, NYSDOT mentioned that panels from the demolition of the Tappen Zee would be available around 2017. This pdf provides the details on the panels which are about 50 in length. Folks need to start asking for the panels as soon as possible.
Work Zone Package Giveaway
In 2009, 2010 and 2012, we gave away sets of work zone equipment to NY highway and public works departments worth around $1,400. The Cornell Local Roads Program has just received Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) funding that will allow us to hand out 20 more sets. We give priority to those that have recently lost equipment through some misfortune, but all are eligible. Contact us to receive your free work zone package! Details of what is in each package and what you need to do to apply go to our website.
