A View from the Road—August 2016

David Orr PE, Director, CLRP

Sometimes we hear people say that if they train their employees, they will leave. Our former Safety Technical Assistance Engineer, Jim Mearkle (who now works at Albany County) liked to ask folks to flip this idea. What if you don't train them and they stay!

Training helps remind us of things we have forgotten, learn new technology and ideas, and provides a way to share what we know with others. Our fall training season starts soon with an engineering level workshop on Combating Roadway Departures in mid-August and ends the week after the Bridge Conference with a Snow and Ice workshop series. In between we have sessions on Running Your Highway Department, Snow & Ice Control and the American with Disabilities Act in the ROW. In addition to the workshops, we have posted many other opportunities for you below. Take advantage of at least one of these to remember, learn, share, and grow. Hope to see you soon.
