Happy New Year!

In New York City, they drop a crystal ball to denote the start of the New Year. Elsewhere in New York State you could have seen a beach ball, a guitar, and many other balls being dropped to announce the start of 2019. Across the country you could have seen a peach, a lobster, a pickle, and even a chili pepper being dropped.

For 2019, how about working together to drop the number of people killed along our roads and streets? Here in New York State we are near 1,000 fatalities due to crashes each year. While this is less than the national average based upon population or number of miles driven, the best number (and the only one we really should accept)
is 0.

In order to get there we have to slow down, put away our cell phones, get a designated driver or taxi (or Uber or Lyft if allowable), watch for pedestrians, and buckle up. If we could get rid of all of those critical factors (speed, distracted driving, impaired driving, pedestrians struck, and unrestrained people (passengers and drivers) in our crashes, we would drop the number of fatalities to less than half! Now there is a drop we can all support.

Registration is now open for 2019 CLRP Spring Workshops!
