I am, and ever will be, a white socks, pocket protector, nerdy engineer.

Recently, the Cornell Chronicle published a wonderful article about some of the fantastic highway officials we work with to help improve the quality and safety of roads and streets across New York State. Somehow they made me look more suave that I really am. It is really you that make us what we are and I thank you.

Read the Cornell Chronicle feature article, “Street Smarts: Cornell paves the way for safer roads in NYS” at https://news.cornell.edu/stories/2019/07/street-smarts-cornell-paves-way-safer-roads-nys

The take home message for anyone who does read the article is to be true to yourself and look for the next opportunity. You never know for sure the next step on the journey, but it could be a big one. I am finishing up a year as the President of a national association of programs like ours. It has taken time and effort, but I have learned more in the last few years being in the officer track than I expected. Next time you see them, thank those who serve your associations. They have earned it.

Speaking of opportunities, please register for our fall workshops series, and the 25th Conference on Local Bridges. There is still space in our more technical workshops on the ADA and low-volume pavement design. There are also conferences and schools being held by the County Superintendents, the Town Superintendents, and NYCOM for public works officials. Hope to see you on the road.

Low-Volume Road Pavement Design

The Cornell Local Roads Program is developing a new tool to design the thickness of low-volume road (LVR) pavements for town and county roads and village streets.

This workshop will review how pavements fail, how they work structurally, and show attendees when and how to use the new LVR design tool.
