September - 2019

We try to schedule workshops that meet your needs and also hold them all around the state so everyone can attend. We have two main seasons for our workshops; spring and fall. Our spring workshops start just after plowing season and end just before the Highway School. Our fall training season starts in September so we can offer as many workshops as possible before the plowing season starts up again. We know that despite whatever the calendar says, you all are out there working for as long as the weather allows. No matter what, our goal is to serve you by offering a strong training program.

Many of the workshops this past spring were so popular we had to stop accepting registrations! For this fall, we recently had to cancel five workshops and several others are threatened. We don't like to cancel workshops, but it is always possible the topics and locations just did not work.

Our workshops are an excellent, low-cost way to provide you with training that will have a positive impact on the work you do throughout New York State. Even one person from your department attending a course on Snow and Ice Operations is beneficial to your community. This fall we have two newly revamped workshops: Solutions for Safer Roads and Streets & Identifying and Reducing Legal Liability and a brand new course on Tools for Practical Communications.

We hope you will sign up for our remaining workshops this fall. Also, please let us know your thoughts in the future so we can better meet your training needs and wants. Spread the word to other colleagues and departments to let them know these workshops are available.

Low-Volume Road Pavement Design

The Cornell Local Roads Program is developing a new tool to design the thickness of low-volume road (LVR) pavements for town and county roads and village streets.

This workshop will review how pavements fail, how they work structurally, and show attendees when and how to use the new LVR design tool.

Help Us Share Your Knowledge!

The Cornell Local Roads Program is looking for examples of daily timesheets that are filled out by crewmembers. Any version of a supervisor’s timesheet, foreman’s report or other timesheets you use at your department will work.

Once we receive a good number of examples, we will share these great resources on our Policies & Standards page on the CLRP website. This webpage is where we collect a variety of different policies that departments can take and use themselves.

Take a look to see if there are things you can use at your department!
