What are the dollar amounts for when sealed bids are required?
Recent changes in New York State have increased the bidding limits for purchases and public works contracts.
General Municipal Law §103 requires competitive bidding for:
- Public works contracts of more than $35,000
- Purchase contracts of more than $20,000
There are several exceptions to these limits, including use of OGS contracts, County contracts, leases, professional services, and emergencies. In addition, local laws may lower these limits. Be sure to check with your municipal attorney and the board if you are not sure.
